Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose to work with you?

You probably found this website by googling, and you may be overwhelmed with your options. If you choose Shot From the Heart Photography, you are working with a licensed and insured photographer. This is vital when choosing someone to work with your family, especially if you have a newborn. I’m also a firefighter and paramedic with 18 years experience. I have been certified as both a CPST (car seat tech) and CPR instructor, and I’m highly trained in newborn care and handling. Many parents refer to me as the “baby whisperer” once their session begins.

How many images will I get?

I don’t limit your final gallery to any specific number, however you are trusting me to select the best images of those captured during your session. Depending on the session, your gallery typically includes around 25-30 images.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash and checks (preferred), all major credit cards, as well as digital payments through both PayPal for business and Venmo for business.

Do you have props and accessories? What about maternity gowns?

YES! I have a HUGE selection of props, backdrops, maternity gowns, outfits for babies, sitters, and toddlers. I have a variety of dresses and gowns for girls from ages 2-10. Backdrops can be seen HERE (I’m always open to your ideas too, so don’t be afraid to ask if there’s something you want that isn’t pictured.) Maternity gowns available for client use can be seen HERE, and I’m always adding more.

I want to order my own maternity gown. Where do you get them?

The majority of my gowns are custom handmade boutique pieces from https://www.sewtrendyaccessories.com and https://silkfairies.com. These are handmade, custom dresses that take time to craft. Please check with each vendor for production times and plan accordingly.

Where does my session take place? Can you come to my home?

Lifestyle newborn sessions take place in your home. Lifestyle sessions are minimalistic in nature and photojournalistic in style. Lifestyle sessions focus on documenting the new family in their home, and do not include specific poses or setups. Posed newborn sessions do include specific poses, props, accessories, and custom requests. All posed newborn sessions take place in my home-based studio located in Canton GA. I utilize professional studio lighting. I have large backdrop stands, and a prop collection too vast to be mobile. It’s just not feasible to make house calls for posed newborn sessions. Milestone sessions and family sessions can take place in the studio or at a location of your choosing. (I’m happy to suggest several locations to suit your needs).

I don’t know when baby will be born. When and how do I book you?

Booking early is highly recommended. Because babies come when they want, I do ask to be notified as soon as possible when you are in labor. This allows me to offer you the best possible scheduling options for your newborn session. Newborns are usually photographed between 4-14 days of age.

How long do sessions last? How many outfit changes can I have?

Newborn sessions are usually around 3 hours. Maternity, infant, child, and family sessions are usually around 45 minutes to an hour. I do not limit your session, but I do respect that nobody wants to take all day so I strive to work efficiently. Newborn clothing sold in stores usually doesn’t fit brand new babies very well, and  babies are usually photographed in only a diaper or a wrap for the majority of the session, but and you are welcome to use any items from my selection of handmade and custom newborn outfits. For maternity, infant, child, and family sessions I do not limit your options, and find that most clients are happy with 2-3 outfits.

Do you do events? Parties? Weddings?

At this time we do not offer event photography, nor do we shoot weddings. Please seek an experienced photographer specifically trained for your event.
